Bianca Miranda
Born and raised in the Philippines, Bianca Miranda is a queer, Filipino performer, playwright, and producer, grateful to be living and working in Moh’kins’tsis, Treaty 7 Territory. She is the Artistic Producer at Downstage, “theatre that creates conversations around social issues”. As a theatre-maker and playwright, their works most often start from a personal place and examine the intersections of her identities, with the urgency to tell underrepresented stories. She is the writer of “Kisapmata” (2023/2024 Betty Mitchell Award for Outstanding New Play; Chromatic Theatre & Lunchbox Theatre) and the co-creator and performer of “The F Word”, a show that blends personal storytelling, song, dance, sketch comedy, and more to explore self-acceptance, fat liberation, and the intersection of fatness with race. As an actor and performer, they’ve worked with theatre companies across Treaty 7, such as Handsome Alice Theatre, One Yellow Rabbit, Major Matt Mason, Shakespeare Company, and more. Bianca believes in the transformative power of theatre and storytelling.
